FULL PACKAGE 17-U ELITE TEAM CAPTURES CHICAGO SHOOTOUT CHAMPIONSHIP
Memorial Day weekend proved to be a successful holiday weekend for Full Package Athletics, as 5 of their teams reached the championship games of their respective age divisions and three squads came away with championship hardware.
Full Package Athletics’ 17-Under Elite team captured the Chicago Shootout championship by defeating three highly regarded teams during Sunday’s championship run. Full Package Elite defeated the Wisconsin Scholars in quarter-final play, Indiana Elite in a semi-final win and knocked off a tough Team Ramey Basketball (St. Louis, Missouri) squad 73-72 in the championship game.
Alex Dragicevich (Glenbrook North), a 6’7 guard, led Full Package into the championship game by scoring 35 points against Indiana Elite. Indiana Elite coach Mike Fox said, “There was nothing we could do to stop Dragicevich. He was hitting shots from 25 feet.”
Fox added, “We put our 6’7, athletic power forward on him and Dragicevich just rose over him and hit everything.”
Steve Pratt, head coach of Full Package Elite, noted his team’s grit and determination in defeating Team Ramey Basketball after a hard fought semi-final win. Pratt said, “All of our guys stepped up and made plays. Kyle Miklasz (Hersey) and Alan Aboona (St. Viator) each made a big three and Brian Fabrizius scored a huge hoop inside to help lead us to the championship.”
Pratt noted, “Dragicevich has made a huge difference in the makeup of our team. He’s played point guard for us and this has allowed our other guys to move to their natural positions and be more comfortable in our offense. He really sets the tone and allows us to be more creative offensively.”
Charles McKinney (Maine East) played lock down defense on one end of the floor and made several huge baskets down the stretch in the championship game.
The Full Package Athletics 17-Under Elite team is off until the July college evaluation period begins. The team starts play at the highly prestigious adidas ItTakes5Classic in Cincinnati, OH, where they finished as tournament runner-up a year ago.
